NBC6: South Florida Answers the Call to Help Japan

South Floridians came out to help their neighbors in need, neighbors living more than seven thousand miles away.

NBC Miami teamed up with Clear ChannelMobile Mike and a host of other organizations to help collect donations at Sun Life Stadium in Miami Gardens Wednesday for the victims of the devastating Earthquake and Tsunami in Japan.

“What you see there I can’t comprehend”, said Mobile Mike.  ” When I saw the images on television, I didn’t look at those people like they were in Japan, I looked at those people like they were in Little Havana, Hialeah, Boca and they needed our help.”

All day and night, members of the South Florida Community came through, dropping off water, blankets, toiletries and monetary donations.

South Floridians know what it’s like to fall victim to Natural Disasters, as former Miami Dolphins player Nat Moore pointed out.

“I’ve lived through so many Hurricanes,” said Moore. “You notice that any time devastation hits, we forget about all our problems, all our differences and we roll up our sleeves and we become a true community and get it done.”
