Tonight in the City of Miami, over 700 people will sleep on the streets. According to a 2009 survey taken by Zogby International, Miami-Dade residents spend nearly $30 Million in gifts to pan handlers. This is money that could be spent on shelters, rehab programs, facilities, job placement, food and more. This problem can be solved! We can make this happen by educating our community and coming together to make our city better for the needy.
Join us as we march on Miami for Homeless Awareness Day! The event is this Thursday, December 8th, 2011. We will begin at 2:30 PM in the Office Depot Parking Lot on 121st and Biscayne Blvd. The event will end at Bayfront Park at 5:30 PM. Participants are encouraged to create cardboard signs to show their support. The brigade will be led with a slow roll of the Mobile Mike Vehicle Fleet.
“We’re inviting people from all over our community to step out in an organized and peaceful manner to do nothing more than recognize that there are people who live on the streets that need our help, and that there are more effective ways to help them than giving your money to panhandlers,” said Homeless Trust chairman, Ronald L. Book.
If you would like to participate but cannot attend the event, you can still help in several ways:
